Messaggio da hawk-eyed »

...e ho ricevuto questa e-mail da un esperto Comandante de MDD-88/90 dicendo:
Now, my choice of aircraft manufacturers are in this order:
1. Lockheed
2. Boeing
3. McDonnell Douglas

That being said, the guy in this blog post is comparing the first generation MD-80 series to an advanced generation 737. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

The MD series I fly were made at near the end of the production run. The engines are a lot more powerful now. Additionally, the IAE V2500 engines on the MD-90 are plenty powerful... more powerful than Jethead's 737 CFM-56: 27,000 pounds of thrust.

It took me a little getting used to the flight controls on the Maddog, but now that I have, I love them. I have found that the guys who don't like the control feel are usually the same guys that fly it with the autopilot on for most of the flight, so they really never fly enough to get "in tune" with it. Their loss.

Another thing he complains about is the instrumentation. Again, the MD-80s that he's flown had very basic "steam gauges." The MD--88 and 90 I fly have some EFIS, and starting next year, will have two large flat panel displays on each side, along with full GPS capability, ADS-B, etc.

Interestingly, he did not mention noise levels in the cockpits. Well, I know why... The Maddog cockpit is one of the quietest out there. And the 737-800 is probably the noisiest.

They are both good airliners. I just think it would have been more fair to compare his old MD-82 with a B-737-200, or the MD-90 with his B-737-800. He may still have crowned the Boeing winner (as I may have, too), but it would have been a better fight.

OT ex pilota di L-1011? Quasi tutti quelli con cui ho avuto modo di parlare hanno un ricordo fantastico del Tristar (che, incidentalmente, è il mio preferito  )
