Incident: Alitalia MD11 at Miami on May 21st 2008, engine dropped parts on landing

An Alitalia McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter, registration EI-UPO performing freight flight AZ-9140 from Milan Malpensa (Italy) to Miami,FL (USA), had touched down in Miami and was in the roll out when parts of the transcowl of the thrust reverser of engine #3 (CF6, right hand) separated and fell onto the runway. The aircraft received some minor airframe damage from the debris until it stopped. No injuries occurred.

A subsequent runway inspection removed the debris before other aircraft operated on the runway again.

The incident became known more than 3 years after the event through a first brief preliminary report on the NTSB website released on Sep 20th 2011, the FAA incident database does not contain the occurrence.
