Qualcuno ne sa qualcosa di piu'?A Primera Air Boeing 737-700, registration TF-JXG performing flight GX-362 from Zakinthos (Greece) to Dublin (Ireland) with 153 passengers and 6 crew, was escorted by two Italian fighter aircraft into Rome Fiumicino (Italy) after the crew requested an emergency landing due to a technical problem. The airplane landed safely on runway 16L, that had been kept sterile for 40 minutes for the emergency arrival with all other traffic operating on runway 16R.
The emergency status was cancelled 19 minutes after touch down.
According to the Italian Air Force the Boeing 737 had changed course shortly after entering Italian Airspace off the coast of Calabria (southern tip of Italy, main cities Reggio Calabria and Catanzaro) and descended from FL380 to FL200 without ATC clearance and without declaring emergency. Therefore the airplane was declared suspicious, with respect to the currently ongoing G8 summit conference and the restricted airspace in Rome - for the departure of the G8 delegations - airborne Eurofighter aircraft to cover the G8 restricted airspace were dispatched to intercept the Boeing. The crew declared emergency later due to a technical problem and refused being diverted to Naples and requested to divert to Fiumicino. After burning off fuel near the Island of Ponza south of Rome (and west of Naples) the airplane landed safely in Fiumicino 80 minutes after the command to intercept the aircraft.
ciao!
