Hot and high tests completed by EA-powered A380

The Engine Alliance powered A380 has returned to Toulouse after successfully performing high altitude tests in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and hot weather tests in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

The aircraft used in the tests is the fifth developmental A380 and is powered by four Engine Alliance GP7200 engines. The tests represent a major milestone in the ongoing certification programme and validated the engine and aircraft performance at airports with extreme conditions.

The aircraft initially flew from Toulouse to Addis Ababa for a series of high altitude tests at Bole International Airport, which sits at 7,500 feet (2,286 metres) above sea level. It then flew directly to Al Ain for the hot weather tests.

In Al Ain the aircraft performed a number of on-ground tests, take-offs and landings in temperatures that reached as high as 38°C (100F).

The other four developmental A380s are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines. In total the five aircraft taking part in the test campaign have flown over 2,250 hours in 700 flights.
